Whenever I fly, I always take a photo out the window. The view from up above always takes my breath away and leaves me in awe. A feeling of insignificance, of being just a little thing in a big wide world.
So as I’ve been flying around the lucky country this year, for work and play, I thought I’d share some of my pics from above.
10 on 10 December – From Up Above
The view out my window flying to Darwin. Not a soul for kilometres. For days. Pure wonder.
I’ve flown all over this great country, but this was my first time flying to Darwin. With a 4 flight, I found myself looking out the window for most of it and I couldn’t help but think of my fave Australian poem ‘My Country’ by Dorothea Mackellar, reciting this verse in my head.
I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror -
The wide brown land for me!
You can read the full poem here.
These two pics were taken on an early flight from Canberra to Sydney on a sunny Saturday back in July, as you can tell from the snow. It’s a quick flight and I pretty much spent the whole time looking out the window at this spectacular scenery.
These two were taken on an early morning flight back to Sydney on a sunny Saturday morning. The harbour was sparkling and the photos just don’t do it justice. Oh Sydney!
I visited my family in my hometown, Port Lincoln in South Australia back in winter. I will never tire of this view, ever. It gives me goosebumps every time I fly in, because… home!
On one side flying in you see this…
Then on the other side, this…

And then there’s the Gold Coast with its stretches of golden sand for days!
And a Gold Coast sunset for the flight home…
Yep… The wide brown land for me!
What makes you feel lucky to live in the lucky country?
Now don’t forget to follow the photography circle and pop on over to Mum of Five girls to see what Veronica’s been up to this month.

I too can’t help but look at the window when I fly – it’s so amazing to see the landscape from a different perspective. Makes you feel pretty insignificant…& blessed at the same time.
