Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award

“The Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award recognizes the unique voices of women bloggers around the world.”

Thank you lovely Kirralee from Escape with Kids and Sammie from The Annoyed Thyroid for nominating me for this award.

I met these two lovely ladies a year ago when we did The Clever Cookie School of Blog together and they’ve become a big part of my blogging life and also dear friends. Kirralee’s style is just fabulous and I love how she brings it to every post she does. And Sammie is such a shining light. She’s the kind of person you just want in your life, full of positivity and joy. You just feel happy being around her.

So this award is an opportunity to share a bit of bloggy love. I am required to acknowledge the blogger/s that nominated me (Thanks Sammie and Kirralee!) answer their 10 questions, nominate 10 worthy bloggers and give them 10 questions to answer. But mostly its about recognising them as the awesome bloggers they are.

So here are my answers to Kirralee’s questions –

  1. Where did you go on your honeymoon? Vietnam. I actually didn’t know where we were going and this was the only wedding task on the Hubby’s list. He told me what to pack and surprised me at the airport (although I did have an inkling!)vietnam
  2. What aspect of your blog would you like to improve? I’d love to be more cluey on the technical side of things.
  3. What is your most successful post on your blog to date? This one… 360 x 360
  4. What is your favourite travel-related movie? National Lampoons Christmas Vacation
  5. What is your favourite form of social media to participate in?  Facebook Your least? Twitter
  6. Did you do much travel before kids? Yes. My parents were both travellers who met in Mykonos, Greece. With an Aussie dad and an American mum the travel bug was instilled from a very young age. Where were your favourite spots? Oh gosh, so many it really is hard to pick but my top 3 would be New York, Rio DeJaniero (where we got engaged) and Barcelona. All cities which is strange given I’m a born and raised country gal.

THAT Cafe. The Garota de Ipanema: Where "The Girl from Ipanema" was written
THAT Cafe. The Garota de Ipanema: Where “The Girl from Ipanema” was written
  7. Did you ever plan a trip solely because a fictional movie or book was set there? We visited The Beach in Thailand mostly because Leo Decaprio had been there! ha!
  8. What is the best museum you have ever been to? The British Museum, where I left my man to explore more while I went shopping! (I only had the one chance so I took it!)
  9. What do you enjoy most in other people’s blogs or social media feeds? I love personal stories. Everyone has a story to tell in their own way and I love that about blogging!
  10. What’s the top three destinations or experiences on ‘your list’? 1. Well, we were planning an African adventure when I fell pregnant with baby #1 so we will definitely get there one day when the kids are older. 2. Croatia 3. and pretty much all of these on Bron from Maxabella’s list

And my answers to Sammie’s questions:

  1. Savoury or sweet? Sweet tooth for sure!
  2. My food nemesis is tofu. What’s yours? Olives.
  3. What’s your speciality a la maison? Hmm.. me & specialty?? Not sure I have one (I suck in the kitchen and often get reminded about that time I phoned home to ask how long to boil an egg for) but I now claim to make a pretty mean sandwich! There is an art to it you know!
  4. If you had to eat one food for the rest of your life what would it be? Toss up between Oysters (natural) or Avocardo’s!
  5. If you could have dinner with a famous person, who would it be and where would you go? Oprah because… Oprah! and we’d go somewhere for Lobster and Oysters.
  6. What dish would you make if you were auditioning for Masterchef? Ha, this made me laugh.. I have been in the Masterchef Kitchen but not to cook unfortunately (as a program sponsor). Somehow I don’t think anything I make would cut it in the Masterchef Kitchen, but if I were capable, I’d probably do Oysters 5 ways!
  7. What’s the best restaurant you’ve ever been to? Tetsuya’s
  8. What’s the best holiday you’ve ever had? South America in 2006 where we got engaged!peru
  9. Are you an early bird or a night owl? Night Owl – kids in bed, freshly brewed pot of tea or a wine, a candle burning and The Bachelor on TV and I’m one happy girl! Gosh I do wish I could become a morning person though.
  10. What’s one thing you would never do? Since having kids, I wouldn’t sky dive or bungee jump.

And the 10 lovely, super talented bloggers I’m nominating are:

  1. Congratulations for being nominated for the award Shannon! It was wonderful getting to know you better by reading your responses to the questions from Sammie & Kirralee and I love the photo’s of you and your hubby! :-) x

  2. Look at you two fresh faced love birds! I love reading 10 questions posts. Bloody kids! We were headed to Vietnam when I found out I was pregnant with Ari and due a week after our departure date… inconvenient! But we wouldn’t have it any other way.

    1. Bloody kids indeed! Lucky we squeezed in a fair bit of travel before they arrived and no doubt we will get to Africa one of these days when they are older. You will have to get to Vietnam too! Its amaze! xx

  3. This is the first time I’ve popped onto your blog Shannon, and what a great post for me to start with!

I’d love to visit South America – I’ve done a flying visit through Santiago which gave me a taster, and now I want more! I’d definitely include the Galapagos Islands too.

    1. Thanks so much for popping by Clare! You must get back to South America and The Galapagos Islands are an absolute must in my book. Amazing place. xx

  4. I did one of these recently and always enjoy reading relatively obscure facts about others in these kinds of link-ups.

Love the answers, but I especially love the pics!

  5. Great answers and great nominations!

    1. How did you meet your significant other? We actually worked together whilst I was at University {he was my boss}. I had a part-time job at Boost Juice and his family owned the store. My Mum was worried that he was 30 and I was 17 – in actual fact he is only 2 years older then me.

    1. Aw thanks Jess. The travel bug was embedded very early on, we used to have slide nights and dad would set up the slide projector, make popcorn and show us his Europe slides from his years of travel. It was from then I knew I’d see those places for myself one day. Thankfully my now huz shared the same travel dreams and we’ve been really lucky to do lots of travel together. xx

    1. That’s lovely to hear Rhonda. South America is definitely one for the bucket list… such an incredible holiday. Be sure to check out the Galapagos Islands too! Amazing. Thanks so much for popping by. xx

    1. Thanks Malinda. There are so many more to add to the list but I dont think there would be a shortage of interesting convos with Oprah! x

  6. What a great way to share the love and congratulations. I’m impressed with the surprised honeymoon and the photos are great . We still haven’t been on our honeymoon yet as we had 3 children under 4 when we got married .

    1. haha… me too these days! Back then I was glad to get another wedding related task off my list. Cant say I’d let him organise a surprise holiday now though. Thanks again for the nomination lovely xx

  7. I think it’s so nice to have a ‘gang’ in the bloggy world. Your Clever Cookie school set you up so beautifully with that. These kinds of awards are so old-school blogging and I love seeing them come back. It’s so nice to learn a bit more about you, Shannon. What a guy your husband is. I love the idea of the groom surprising the bride with a destination. Cool! x

  8. Oh my gosh. I had no idea I was nominated. And out of all the posts of yours I chose to read this one today. Cool beans! Thank you so much.
I learned a lot about you. Like you have an American mum like I do. Does that mean you have a duel citizenship. Maybe I missed that bit. I totally think the travel bug came from my parents, and being born in Ecuador. I want to try Tetsuyas!!
I think it’s awesome you’ve been in the masterchef kitchen. Hello – cool!!

    1. I was going to message you lovely! And yes, I have dual citizenship and so does my hubby as he was born there. I need to get onto organising US passports for the kids, just been putting it off at the thought of all that paperwork! I love that you are such a mish mash of different nationalities! Have fun with the questions! xx
